Koda ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user of the Koda app and website.
1. Location Data
Koda requests access to your device location to find nearby restaurants and activities. Here's how we handle it:
- Location is used only to search for places near you in real time.
- We do not store your location on our servers.
- We do not track your location in the background.
- If you deny location access, you can still use Koda by entering a ZIP code manually.
2. Account & Authentication
Koda uses Firebase Authentication (provided by Google) to manage user accounts. When you create an account or sign in:
- Your email address is stored securely by Firebase.
- Passwords are hashed and managed entirely by Firebase — Koda never sees your password.
- Your account data (saved places, reviews, itineraries) is stored in Firebase Firestore under your user ID.
You can delete your account at any time by contacting us at the email below. Upon deletion, all associated data is permanently removed.
3. Google Places API
Koda uses the Google Places API to power search results. When you search for places:
- Your location coordinates and search query are sent to our server, which queries Google's API on your behalf.
- We do not share your personal identity with Google as part of these requests.
- Google's own privacy policy governs their handling of API requests: policies.google.com/privacy.
4. Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect advertising identifiers.
- We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We do not collect payment information.
5. We Never Sell Your Data
Koda does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party, ever. Your data is used solely to provide and improve the Koda experience.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personally identifiable data is removed within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
Koda is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Koda after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
